Nokia Corp (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) has partnered with Bell Canada to carry out the very first Canadian 5G tests.
The two firms have successfully carried out their new 5G tests in Canada. The tests involved the use of spectrum speeds whose range was 73GHz to achieve speeds that are six times faster than LTE networks currently available in the country. The companies also sought to achieve sustainable data speeds. The recent trials highlight the increasing push for 5G networks, thus increasing the chances of 5G being a regular thing over the next four to five years.
Bell issued a report stating that it has a particular focus on driving service innovation in its broadband network in Canada. Bell’s CTO, Stephen Howe also highlighted that the success of the recent 5G trials means it is in a good position to be a leader in the next generation of high-speed networks. Howe also stated that his firm is working hand in hand with Nokia to develop the network and lay down the infrastructure necessary for Canadians to get the best of what 5G has to offer. Faster mobile connectivity will be necessary over the next five to seven years as mobile consumers increase their appetite for video content and applications in the Internet of Things (IoT).
Nokia’s Senior Officer for Canada Alex Giosa stated that Nokia was pleased to combine efforts with Bell to test the pre-commercial version of the next generation networks. The two companies have previously worked together on LTE networks and their strong relationship is part of the reason why they were ideal partners for the latest project. They will continue to work together on 5G technology and infrastructure.
Bell’s LTE network has been considered the fastest 4G network in Canada by various analysts. The company’s plan is to hold down its top position by securing a strong foundation and becoming a pioneer in 5G networks. There is a lot of progress to be expected over the next five years as far as 5G is concerned.
