Groupon Inc Common Stock (NASDAQ:GRPN) has gone ahead to ask parents in most parts of the country about how they were going to spend this particular summer with their families. The company paid a much closer focus into how much time the families expected to spend in front of their electronic devices. One fact that stood out in all of this was that the results were staggering.
As a matter of fact, American families will most probably spend averagely 35 days of their summer using the various electronic devices. This according to experts represents about one-third of the total time. Groupon’s Funtacular Fun Fest took place between May 18-20 and it provided the perfect platform to carry out the survey. The results obtained indicated that the average child would play 150 hours of video games and watch about 60 movies this summer.
The head of Fun Things To Do at Groupon, Greg Rudin when addressing a recent press conference said, “We love technology, but we also think it should be in the service of something we love even more, which is spending time with our families and experiencing the compelling local activities offered during the summer months and throughout the year. As parents, we’re often just as guilty as our kids when it comes to screen time, which is why it’s important for the entire family to put down our devices every once in awhile and go make some memories together.”
The top end company directed numerous questions to the parents. One of the questions was in regards to how much screen time affected children. About 77 percent of parents responded citing that screen exposure negatively impacted their children. They said that it drastically affected the mood of their children.
Another 62 percent reported that it was a distressing experience having to always struggle with their children in an effort to have them put down the devices. Another group complained saying that too much screen time negatively impacted the sleeping patterns of their children. The parents also felt that they were victims of this considering that they wasted away about one of out every four weekends per month.
