Cisco Systems, Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) has been declared a leader in the collaboration space. This is after the Synergy Research Group released a report early in the April this year. Initially, the Microsoft had dominated the leading position in the collaboration market.
According to the Synergy Research Group new Q4 data, the Cisco Systems raised its market shares for the third successive quarter, attaining the 15% mark in just the final three months of the year. Although Microsoft also experienced a sequential growth in its market shares, it dragged behind its rival with 2.5% points. The Avaya came third after beating IBM which came in the fourth in the quarter.
The Cisco’s success in the growth of its market share in Q4 is largely due to the increased five-year market-share that elevated in premise-based solutions while still holding its own higher position growth in the hosted/cloud market segments. The Microsoft has continued to hold a firm lead in the hosted/cloud collaboration space but the new market segment is too fragmented and has no single supplier to attain a double-digit market share compared to the on-premise based market. Other top players in this market include the AT&T, Citrix, Mitel, UNIFY, Polycom, ALE, and Verizon.
The collaboration market surpassed the $9 billion mark in the last year which is higher than in the recent past. Microsoft’s strong place in the collaboration market has enabled it to maintain its leadership and control position in the SaaS space for three consecutive quarters. The collaboration space covers a wide range of business tools including the enterprise voice, the enterprise social networks, telepresence, unified communication, enterprise content management, and other numerous hosted /cloud communication and computer applications.
Cisco has been a leader in the on-premise based solutions in the collaboration market but this may soon change as many companies are progressively entering the cloud-based solutions sector. The best company leading in cloud-based collaboration solutions has been Microsoft which maintains the upper hand in the market.
During the quarter performance, the growth was increasingly experienced in the teamwork applications, contact center service (CCaaS) and in the video as a service (VaaS). The collaboration market continues to be fragmented and this is largely influenced by the unending list of troublesome and high- growth companies.
