Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Loses Its Chief Leader Of Hip-Hop And R&B To Spotify

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) Music’s hip-hop and R&B curator, Carl Chery is reportedly departing for the Apple’s prime rival, Spotify according to Variety. Chery has been credited for developing high-traffic playlists on the Apple Music including the A-List Hip-hop and R&B playlists especially various exclusives from the Chance The Rapper including the world recognized album ‘Coloring Book’ and other artists such as Cardi B., Bryson Tiller, Daniel Caesar, H.E.R., Post Malone, and others.

According to the latest reports, the Chance The Rapper would only be available on the Apple Music for the next two weeks. Chery is also distinguished for developing Apple Music playlists and helping various artists to develop their musical talents. Chery is expected to curate Spotify’s popular ‘RapCaviar’ playlist that was left by the previous curator who joined YouTube in early March 2018.

Though Spotify’s paid music streaming could not be performing better than Apple Music in the US, the presence of Chery might accelerate their sales margins in the near future. Recently, Spotify announced its plans to update its mobile app and implement other changes to its products and services as part of the company’s strategy to overcome its rivals including Apple Music on the market.

According to the latest news from The Wall Street Journal, Apple Music’s customer base is growing 5% faster compared to Spotify’s 2% in the US market. The main reason behind the industry figures between the two firms could be due to the fact that Apple dominates its home territories. In addition, Apple possesses the largest share of the US smartphone market with over 44.8%, according to the findings from Comscore.

However, Spotify still leads in some market segments including those outside the US. Furthermore, the firm currently serves over 70 million clients compared to 36 million customers owned by Apple. Furthermore, Spotify is renowned for its strong influence across the globe particularly where Android dominates.

Chery has previously worked as a music journalist for several music companies including XXL and BET and has been working for Apple since 2014.
