Sphere 3D Corp. (NASDAQ:ANY) Announced That The Beck Group Has Successfully Implemented VDI For Virtue Desktop Infrastructure

Sphere 3D Corp. (NASDAQ:ANY) reported that the Beck Group has implemented HVE solution successfully for its Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) which includes VDI for GPU intensive workloads.

Beck group as the game changer in building designs

The Beck Group has been changing the landscape through innovation in building design as well as construction industry in more than hundred years. Some prominent ones include; the tallest building in Shreveport; The Slattery Building (1923), the iconic Fountain Place in Dallas (1986), Texas Motor Speedway (1997), and The University of Texas at Dallas (2016).

Information technology advancement in the construction industry

The Information Technology (IT) in the construction industry has also gone through major advancement in the last 100 years. This includes introduction of building information technology (BIM), sophisticated applications for computer aided design (CAD) as well as other related technologies. Up until now these technology advancements require the ability to access powerful workstations which are stationary and need to be managed as individual occurrences.

Details of the agreement

The move to VDI provided the Beck Group with the ability to manage the continued organic growth, allow the IT department to easily support remote site as the mobile workers when they are out of work as well as provide greater security as data is no longer stored on edge devices.

Including the HVE 3DGFX appliances for controlling CAD applications in a VDI environment provides all the benefits of VDI traditional workloads as well as a powerful server based computing environment for CAD applications. After CAD data is processed by the server it is then streamed over the network to the client device as an image. The load on the individual client is significantly decreased despite the higher volumes of network traffic.

Server processed CAD data allows for more effective utilization of compute resources with a faster times rendering as well as staff can access their workload anywhere from any device.

Other solutions evaluated

Beck Group had evaluated other possible solutions before settling on HVE 3DGFX solution. HVE 3DGFX leverages Vmware ESXi, Horixon View and NVIDIA GPU technology. It chose HVE and worked closely with its team to establish five HVE 3DGFX appliances. The initial deployment is complete and the company intends to continue with environment scaling to allow for a virtual desktop handling 700 users with around a third of them running GPU workloads.
