Sirius XM Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:SIRI) Special Channel To Exclusively Cover The 2016 Olympics

Sirius XM Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:SIRI) has announced plans to launch a radio channel that will offer comprehensive coverage of Olympic events throughout the entire Olympics period.

Sirius XM claims that the 24-hour channel will offer live commentary of the events as well as highlights and daily news about the international event which will take place in Rio De Janeiro Brazil. The company will present the new channel in partnership with NBCUniversal which holds the rights to airing the Olympics in the US. The firm will also work together with Westwood One on the project. Sirius XM will highlight 6,755 hours of NBC coverage of the games from all the NBCUniversal digital platforms and networks.

Sirius XM subscribers will get to enjoy broadcasts from various sports including the men and women’s soccer tournaments, men and women’s basketball and men’s golf among others. The men’s golf will be reinstated into the Olympics after more than 100 years of absence.Westwood One will produce all the play-by-play broadcasts.

The broadcasting will commence at 10.00 pm ET tonight beginning with a two-hour review which will be available to SiriusXM listeners through Westwood One. The channel will also offer live updates from Rio on hourly intervals. Jim Noble and Chris Spatola of SiriusXM will host the morning show every day on Channel 106. They will give brief highlights of events that will take place the previous day as well as an overview of the upcoming events. The shows may shift their durations periodically to allow for broadcasting of live events.

Some of the sports experts from SiriusXM will also contribute to commentary throughout the Rio Olympics so that they can provide expert analysis of the different sporting events. Some of the hosts include Mark Morgan,Chris Spatola, Brendan Haywood,Tim Legler and Jason Terry. They are all former NBA players and they will host pre-game and post-game commentary for men’s basketball. Eric Wynalda, Aly Wagner, and Glenn Crooks will be among the commentary team for every US women’s soccer tournament.
